Bahia Beach Coastal Restoration

Location: West Shell Point Road in Ruskin, south of Hillsborough County's E.G. Simmons Park.

The Environmental Protection Commission has taken the lead in planning for the restoration of hydrology and natural habitat. Earthwork is expected to begin in 2010.

Location: Land south of Balm Road (C.R. 672), east of U.S. Hwy 301, and west of the old CSX Railroad grade in South Hillsborough County. Enter from McGrady Road.

A spectacular example of land preservation featuring 5000 acres of endangered sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, creeks, grassy meadows, and freshwater marshes. Habitat restoration is in progress and will continue for the next several years. Parking for all recreational activities is at the address listed above. Please note that the fishing pits are located over 2 miles east of the parking area so plan accordingly.

Five-hundred acre sanctuary featuring pine flatwoods, freshwater marshes, sandhill, swamps, open grasslands, oak hammocks, ponds, sand pine scrub, and spring-fed creeks. Parking, kiosk, and trail head are at 10940 McMullen Road, south of Rodgers Middle School.

The Conservation Services Office, with information about this site and many other Hillsborough County nature preserves, is also located here (open to the public during the week). Walk-through entrances are on 11921 Boyette Road and 11201 Donneymoor Drive.

Location: 2469 Patrinostro Road, Plant City, FL 33565

Rare palmetto prairie, cypress swamps, oak hammocks, freshwater marshes and a creek corridor are the features of the 2000-acre jewel located north of Plant City. Management highlights include prescribed burning and cattle grazing. Parking for the trail head, kiosk, and picnic tables are at the dead end of Patrinostro Road west from Highway 39.
