The Falkenburg Wastewater Treatment Plant, located just north of State Road 60, is being expanded from 9 million gallons a day (mgd) to 12 mgd.
The $32 million project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
During its expansion, the Falkenburg Wastewater Treatment Plant will be outfitted to receive its electricity directly from the County’s Resource Recovery Facility next door, rather than Tampa Electric Company (TECO).
This will result in a savings of more than $380,000 annually enough of a savings that the power supply project will have paid for itself in 16 months.
