Extension Service
About Us
The Hillsborough County Extension Service, located just minutes from Tampa, is an educational service provided by both the University of Florida, and Hillsborough County. It provides information to the public through workshops, publications, and mass media.

In 1914, Congress established the Extension Service in order to provide a means for disseminating and implementing research-based information from land-grant universities. The University of Florida in Gainesville is Florida's land-grant university.

The transfer of knowledge from the university to people throughout the state is facilitated by extension faculty located in each of Florida's 67 counties. This partnership between counties and the university is the heart of the County Extension Service mission and enables the university to extend its knowledge base to each community.

What We Do
The mission of extending and implementing research-based information to the people of Florida has not changed, however the information and delivery methods have enormously improved.

The driving force for these information delivery methods are the needs of citizens in each county. County extension faculty develops educational programs based on issues determined by their urban, and commercial customers or citizens. These priority issues form the basis for major educational programs, which are conducted statewide.

Information is delivered by computer software, seminars, video presentations, online, or by the traditional methods of lecture and print. Our customers participate in classes statewide and implement new information in their business, homes, and communities.
