Dexter Barge, a Florida native, has been Director of Hillsborough County Code Enforcement Department since June 2003.
Code Enforcement investigates complaints and conducts inspections throughout unincorporated Hillsborough County, enforcing laws regulating zoning, signs, environmental nuisances and minimum housing standards. The department also administers the False Alarm Ordinance 04-16 which collects fines from property owners with false security alarms.
Dexter joined Hillsborough County Government in 1994 and before leading the Code Enforcement Department, he worked in positions including Code Enforcement Investigation and General Management. Prior to coming to Hillsborough County Government he worked for the Tampa Housing Authority. He is a retired Army Reserve Officer, having served eleven years active duty and retired with a total of twenty-one years where he commanded soldiers in Europe and during combat in the Persian Gulf.
Dexter is a Florida A&M University graduate and has done graduate work in Business Administration. He is also certified through the Florida Association of Code Enforcement and belongs to the American Association of Code Enforcement.
