Pet Resource Center Shines with Volunteer Certification
Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center (PRC) joins an elite group of organizations that have been nationally certified by Points of Light, the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, as a Service Enterprise program.
Service Enterprise, a three-year certification, signifies that organizations have the capability and management expertise to strategically use volunteers to improve the performance of their organization.
PRC is one of only four certified programs in Florida, and is also the only open-admission shelter in the state to receive the certification. PRC took part in a rigorous 18-month process to earn the highly-coveted certification. During the extensive process, PRC integrated and helped guide its volunteers in its overall mission to care for and protect all of Hillsborough County's pets.
The work doesn't stop once the certification is received though. PRC will continue to engage its volunteers to help support the shelter and its pets. Volunteers are involved in every aspect of PRC operations, from assisting in pet enrichment and community outreach to supporting vet services and pet adoptions. In 2017, PRC had more than 820 volunteers log 20,480 hours at the shelter and sights have been set higher thanks to the new certification. In the last week alone, PRC had more than 110 volunteers log 630 hours with 25% of that time spent helping run a new pet enrichment program called ROMP! - Receiving Outside Meaningful Playtime.
But no matter what the task at hand is for PRC volunteers, they all have one goal in mind every time they don their bright green volunteer t-shirts: keep the pets happy and healthy until they find a loving, forever home.
