Hurricane Irma Disaster Recovery Center Will Close Nov. 18
The Hurricane Irma Disaster Relief Center in Hillsborough County will close on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.
A partnership between Hillsborough County and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the center offers residents and business owners impacted by Hurricane Irma a central place where they can find out about federal, state, and local programs and services available to help them. Hurricane Maria survivors who have come to Hillsborough County may also visit the center.
The Disaster Recovery Center is located at The Regent, 6437 Watson Road in Riverview. The center is open today through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments are not necessary.
Hillsborough residents who still need help after Saturday may locate another Disaster Recovery Center by calling the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362 (TTY: (800) 462-7585). Helpline numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. A center locator also can be found at www.fema.gov/disaster-recovery-centers or by using the FEMA app.
Types of assistance are determined on a case-by-case basis. Disaster assistance may include grants to help homeowners and renters pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs, personal property replacement, human services, and other disaster-related needs. U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loans are available to businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters to cover uninsured losses from the disaster. Economic injury disaster loans are also available to provide disaster related working capital to small businesses and most private nonprofit organizations.
Residents should keep in mind these very important deadlines for Hurricane Irma assistance:
- Register for FEMA's Individuals and Households Program by Friday, Nov. 24.
- Businesses and individuals with physical damages caused by Hurricane Irma should apply for SBA low-interest disaster loans before Nov. 24.
- The period for FEMA's Transitional Sheltering Assistance ends Saturday, Dec. 2.
To speed recovery, FEMA urges residents to register before they visit the Disaster Recovery Center. To register, go online to DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA helpline at (800) 621-3362 (TTY: (800) 462-7585).
