No Fooling during First Saturday

Deals for adopting large or heartworm-positive dogs or FIV-positive cats

Pet Resource Center's First Saturday Celebration might fall on April Fool's Day this year, but the center's offer of free heartworm-preventive medicine for all dogs adopted over 40 pounds is no joke.

The Pet Resource Center also will offer $10 adoptions for all heartworm-positive dogs and FIV-positive cats throughout April.

The First Saturday Celebration will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 1. The shelter is at 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa.

The Pet Resource Center offers $20 adoptions for all ready-to-go pets, a deal which includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchip with free registration, and Hillsborough County pet license tag (a package valued at $250 to $400).

The First Saturday Celebration also will feature:

  • refreshments and music
  • special guests, exhibitors, rescue partners, and foster pets who are ready for adoption
  • free parking and admission

The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is often the first place to take in the community's lost and surrendered animals, and the shelter hopes to be the first place adopters come to select a new pet. The facility is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for adoptions, lost pet searches, low-cost spay/neuter vouchers, and Hillsborough County pet license tags.
