Learn more about the many community resources available to help raise strong, healthy families during the Hillsborough County Children's Services' Third annual Community Fair this Saturday, March 18.
The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Children's Services Lake Magdalene Campus, 3191 Clay Magnum Lane in Tampa. The free, family-friendly event will features games, live music and entertainment, face painting, a bounce house, free food, and prize drawings. While kids are enjoying the activities, parents and caregivers can visit with experts from more than 50 public, nonprofit, and community agencies about programs and services that can grow their children's emotional, physical, and mental health.
More than 300 parents and kids attended last year's event.
"The purpose is to enlighten and educate the community about the resources available to them, and to celebrate family," Children's Services Director JoAnn Rollins said. "We provide services for children from 0 to 17 years old, and we have multiple partners in the community that do the same."
On hand will be representatives from several County departments ranging from Head Start to Parks & Recreation. Among the many other exhibitors signed up are such organizations as Florida Hands & Voices, dedicated to supporting families and their children who are deaf or hard of hearing; the Healthy Start Coalition of Hillsborough County, with several programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of pregnant women, children, and families; and Shriners Hospitals for Children - Tampa, whose hospital on the grounds of the University of South Florida focuses on a wide range of pediatric orthopaedic conditions.
Continuous entertainment throughout the event will include a family-friendly DJ and live performances by local children's musical groups, among others.
Hillsborough County Children's Services is committed to empowering youth and families to be successful, healthy, and self-reliant. Children's Services provides professional counseling services, support, and mentoring for troubled youth and their families through several programs. Child Care Licensing, a division of Children's Services, regulates the operations of child care centers and family child care homes in Hillsborough County.
