Hillsborough County, Fla. (April 21, 2017) - Shelter pets are loving and loyal. They like to get hugs. They give lots of kisses. Shelter pets make a good day great and help you get through the bad times.
They just need a chance.
Sunday, April 30, is Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, a nationwide day to raise awareness of the pets in shelters awaiting permanent, loving homes. Hillsborough County's Pet Resources Center, the largest animal shelter in the Tampa Bay area, will waive all adoption fees on April 30 for dogs over 40 pounds and cats that are at least 1 year old.
Spring and summer traditionally are the busiest times of year at pet shelters. The Pet Resource Center takes in an average of about 50 pets a day. Some are reunited with their owners, but many need permanent new homes. Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is an important way to match pets with people and help open up kennel space in preparation for the busy summer months.
Dogs and cats will be available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 30 at the Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa.
