Hillsborough Offers More Healthy Living Options for South County Residents
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 3, 2018) - The community is invited on Saturday, Aug. 4, to celebrate the renovations at SouthShore Community Resource Center followed by the Healthy Living Center Open House.
The renovations at SouthShore Community Resource Center, 201 14th Ave. S.E. in Ruskin, created space for a Healthy Living Center that features a 580-square-foot fitness center and a 780-square-foot exercise room. The Healthy Living Center is operated by Hillsborough County Health Care Services and offers preventive care programs, including exercise equipment and a group fitness room, wellness classrooms, and nutrition and exercise programs.
The renovations also include the installation of a solar canopy that will save Hillsborough County thousands in utility bills every year. The solar canopy will provide shaded parking for 18 spaces as well as generate electricity for the resource center. The system consists of 210 panels with a total rating of 59 kW. The system is expected to save the county more than $7,600 in electricity costs each year.
The free, family-friendly Healthy Living Center Open House will include free health screenings, activities for kids, giveaways, representatives from community health partners, and the Feeding Tampa Bay Mobile Pantry.
The ribbon-cutting for the SouthShore Community Resource Center renovations is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Saturday. The Healthy Living Center Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
