Deadline for Entries for Recycled Yard Art Contest - Jan. 28

Competition rewards creativity, encourages recycling

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2018) - One person's junk is another person's treasure - especially if prizes are involved.

The Hillsborough County UF/IFAS Extension Service is now accepting entry forms from Hillsborough County residents for its biannual Recycled Yard Art contest, this one being held in conjunction with the upcoming Florida State Fair. The competition aims to increase environmental awareness and encourage reuse and recycling of materials in a creative and fun way.

Artwork can be two- or three-dimensional, must be fashioned from items already used for their original purpose, and must be able to withstand outdoor elements. Individuals and groups can enter four age categories: Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and Adults. First-place winners will score a gift basket filled with Florida-Friendly Landscaping gardening goodies.

The deadline to submit entry forms is Jan. 28. Submissions will be displayed during the fair and again at the Extension Service's Seffner office.

For the complete criteria, rules, and entry form, go to the UF/IFAS Extension site. Questions? Email Lisa Meredith, the Extension Service's Compost, School & Community Garden Program coordinator, or call her at (813) 744-5519, ext. 54146.
