County Extension Service Offers Variety of Programs in July

(July 3, 2018) - Hillsborough County Extension Service, in partnership with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, offers a wide variety of interesting educational classes, seminars, and workshops on such topics as parenting, youth development, gardening, nutrition, money management, agriculture, and professional certifications reviews and exams. Pesticide License Exam Session

Hurricanes and Trees
Wednesday, July 11 at 7 p.m.

It's Atlantic hurricane season - do you know how to prepare your trees for a storm, and what to do afterward if they're damaged? Topics of this free workshop include which trees are least likely to topple in high winds, proper pruning to resist wind damage, restoring hurricane-damaged trees, and what to document for insurance claims. Parenting Classes

Compost Happens, Microirrigation, and Rainwater Harvesting Workshops
Saturday, July 14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Learn how to turn trash into composting treasure, install a microirrigation system for a healthy and attractive lawn and landscape while conserving water, and make your own rain barrel using a plastic, 55-gallon food-grade drum. First-time attendees will receive a free compost bin and thermometer, microirrigation kit, and rain barrel (limit one each per household). Child Care Provider Training: See as a Child, Feel as a Child
