Hillsborough County Economic Development Receives Award
Florida Economic Development Council's "Deal of the Year" Award Recognizes County's Business Efforts
Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 27, 2016) - Adding to the list of recent economic development achievements, the Hillsborough County Economic Development Department and the Tampa-Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation were jointly awarded the highest achievement for outstanding work in economic development in the state of Florida. Together, they received the coveted Florida Economic Development Council (FEDC) "Deal of the Year" award for the CitiGroup, Inc. project.
Approved by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners in February 2015, the CitiGroup, Inc. project announced the expansion of a Fortune 500 company in Hillsborough County, adding 1,163 new jobs with an average wage of $75,000 and a private capital investment of $90 million. The proposed expansion includes finance, technology, compliance, legal, human resources, and risk management professional business activities to the County, and will add to the existing 5,173 CitiGroup, Inc. employees in the County.
"Hillsborough County has once again shown that we are leading the state in economic development, investment, and job creation," said Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Lesley "Les" Miller, Jr. "Our collaborative efforts with the business community and our large, highly-skilled workforce continue to make Hillsborough County a desirable place for companies to invest in and expand. I congratulate the Economic Development team on their 'Deal of the Year' award, and for their dedication and hard work on this project."
CitiGroup, Inc.'s decision to expand in Hillsborough County was the result of a year-long, cooperative effort between the company and the Hillsborough County Economic Development Department and Tampa-Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation team. The company is just one of the latest to expand operations in Hillsborough County. Both Amazon and USAA opened new facilities in the County in previous months, and are expected to add more than 3,000 jobs between them.
