Hillsborough County Extends State of Local Emergency

Hurricane Irma Update No. 32

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 12, 2017) - Today, members of the Emergency Policy Group (EPG) extended the declaration for a state of local emergency until Tuesday, September 19, in Hillsborough County due to Hurricane Irma.

Under the Executive Order, the County Administrator carries out all emergency responsibilities delegated by the EPG throughout Hillsborough County, including the incorporated cities of Plant City, Tampa, and Temple Terrace.

The Executive Order also helps prevent local businesses, vendors, merchants, and any other persons operating a retail business from charging more than the normal average retail price.

Background: The Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group is comprised of three County Commissioners, the mayors from the cities of Plant City, Tampa and Temple Terrace, and the Sheriff. Authority is granted by Article 8 of the Florida Constitution, Section 125.66 and Chapter 252, Florida Statues, Hillsborough County enacted Hillsborough County Code of Ordinances and Laws Chapter 22, Article II, Sections 22-23 in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of County's citizens during declared emergencies.
