KEY PHRASES:
Hurricane effects: A hurricane is not a point; its effects cover a large area. Don't focus
on just the eye or the storm track. Take the following into consideration:
- Winds and rain extend a long distance from the center
- There will be storm surge and higher than normal tides
- There will be coastal flooding and beach erosion.
Wind and flood effects: If you live in a building (mobile or manufactured home), subject
to wind damage or live in an area subject to flooding, you should have a plan and be ready
to move to a safer location. If you live in a flood prone area or an exposed coastal area,
you should evacuate to a shelter or higher ground.
Tropical Depression: Winds at a sustained speed of 38mph.
Tropical Storm: Sustained winds from 39mph to 73mph.
Gale force winds: sustained speed of 54mph |
