Monday, Oct. 26, 9 a.m. - noon
Children's Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Ave. in Tampa
The Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) will host a workshop to engage health experts on addressing women's health issues in our community.
Feedback collected during this workshop will be used to update the Report on Women?s Health Issues and Health Care in Hillsborough County, published in 2007 in conjunction with the University of South Florida - College of Public Health. The workshop will also be an opportunity for attendees to network and share resources.
The comprehensive 171-page report identified key issues, such as population growth, racial and ethnic disparities, and accessibility, and provided recommendations for improvements. To view the report in its entirety, visit: www.hillsboroughcounty.org/statusofwomen, then click on Publications.
Workshop attendees will include scholars, social services agencies, healthcare organizations, and other providers. For more information, contact Brandon Wagner in the Hillsborough County Public Affairs Office at 813-276-2640.
The Board of County Commissioners created the Commission on the Status of Women in 2003 to advise Hillsborough County government and the community about women's issues pertaining to discrimination, employment, education, child care, culture and more. The COSW accomplishes this through strategic partnerships, and development of comprehensive reports and recommendations. Previous reports include Children Needs in Hillsborough County (2007), Employment Issues for Women in Hillsborough County (2005), Affordable Housing Action Report Recommendation Memorandum to BOCC (2004) and Housing Issues for Women in Hillsborough County (2004).
