| Hillsborough County Commissioners present nine awards
throughout the year to a residents, organizations or associations
for a variety of reasons - but they all encompass contribution to
our community.
These recipients are recognized for
their selflessness, triumph, courage and innovation, and they
are examples to all residents.

| Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award |

Hillsborough County Commissioners established the annual Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award in 2005 to recognize the outstanding
athletic and scholastic achievements of a high school baseball player or team.
The award is named in honor of Baseball's 1st Ballot Hall of Fame member Wade Boggs. A resident of Tampa Bay since his youth,
Wade Boggs is a 12-time All Star who ended his 18-year major league career as a member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. His
career baseball statistics include 3,010 hits, 1,513 runs, 578 doubles, 61 triples, 118 home runs, 1,014 runs batted in
and a .328 batting average. In his 2,432 career games, he reached base safely in 80 percent of them.
Eligibility
- Any high school baseball player or team in Hillsborough County that has demonstrated outstanding achievements and whose accomplishments
are a contributing factor not only to their success, but to the success of their community.
Nominating Procedures
- Nominations will be accepted from high school coaches within the community in May
of every year. Obtain nomination form ( PDF, 52KB ) .
Selection Criteria
Each year, a Wade Boggs Athletic Award Committee, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, will use the following criteria
in selecting a recipient:
- The recipient(s) must be a high school baseball player or baseball team in Hillsborough County.
- The recipient(s) must
exhibit outstanding athletic skills, exceptional academic achievement, good sportsmanship and exemplary conduct.
- The
recipient(s) must have made a substantial contribution to the betterment of the community.
The Committee will reach consensus and bring its decision to the Board of County Commissioners for ratification. The award
will be presented annually at a BOCC Awards Ceremony.
