| Hillsborough County Commissioners present seven awards throughout the year to a residents, organizations or associations
for a variety of reasons - but they all encompass contribution to our community. These recipients are recognized for
their selflessness, triumph, courage and innovation, and they are examples to all residents.

| Brave Citizen |

| Hillsborough County Commissioners created an award in 2004 to recognize residents and citizen groups who demonstrate
exceptional bravery. This award is presented throughout the year as qualifying acts by individual(s) are recognized
by the Commission.
Eligibility
- Any resident(s) of Hillsborough County who has demonstrated exceptional bravery.
- Individuals
and groups are eligible for nomination.
Nominating Procedures
- The decision of the Board of County Commissioners is final. The nomination form and supporting information become
the property of Hillsborough County.
- Nomination forms are required. Incomplete or illegible forms are not considered.

Selection Process
The purpose of this award is to recognize
exceptional bravery that meets the definitions below:
- Exceptional: Forming an exception; better than average.
- Bravery:
Firmness of mind and will in the face of danger or extreme difficulty; courage.
- Exceptional Bravery: An act of exceptional
bravery and challenge to face danger or extreme difficulty.
The Citizens’ Advisory Committee reviews all nominations and recommends finalists whose actions clearly demonstrate
exceptional bravery. County Commissioners then approve and honor the individual(s). |
